Job Title: Junior Structural Engineer

Position: We are seeking a motivated Junior Structural Engineer to join our engineering team. The successful candidate will assist in structural analyses, bridge and transportation structure inspection & design, preparation of construction documents, and construction-phase support for transportation and infrastructure projects.

This position provides an opportunity to gain hands-on experience working on bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and other civil infrastructure structures, including work associated with NJDOT and local government agencies.

Responsibilities:

• Assist in performing structural inspection, analyses and design calculations for bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and related transportation structures.

• Review existing structural plans, inspection reports, field measurements, and available project data.

• Perform structural engineering calculations and analyses under the supervision of senior engineers.

• Assist in evaluating concrete, steel, and other structural components, connections, and load paths.

• Prepare structural calculation packages, technical memoranda, design reports, and engineering documentation.

• Assist in preparing and reviewing structural drawings, specifications, and construction documents.

• Provide field engineering support during bridge rehabilitation, structural repairs, and other construction activities.

• Coordinate with project engineers, roadway and geotechnical teams, contractors, and other project stakeholders.

• Assist in evaluating existing structural conditions and resolving structural issues encountered during design and construction.

• Maintain accurate field notes, design calculations, engineering documentation, and project reports.

• Assist Geotechnical Department if and when needed.

Qualifications - Required

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a closely related field.

• 0–3+ years of relevant engineering experience.

• Basic understanding of structural mechanics, structural analysis, and reinforced concrete and steel design principles.

• Strong analytical, technical writing, and communication skills.

• Ability to perform fieldwork and visit active construction sites.

• Valid driver's license.

Qualifications - Preferred

• Master's degree in Structural Engineering.

• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or eligibility.

• Familiarity with structural analysis and design software for bridges/structures.

• Experience with bridge design, structural evaluation, rehabilitation, or structural construction inspection.

• Knowledge of AASHTO, NJDOT, and/or engineering standards.

• Familiarity with bridge inspection practices, structural detailing, and field inspection procedures.
